Why we cannot increase the radius for service area adjustments?
Answer: The current reconfigured service area optimises for dasher costs, food quality, and speed of delivery. Service area is a system calculated algorithm which takes distance, dasher availability, traffic, etc. to ensure a successful delivery. Food quality could suffer from an expanded Service Area.
For example: if you were to set a 5km radius from let's say Darling Harbour, for a driver to reach Stanmore would take 18 minutes without too much traffic. By the time food arrives, the quality of your product would have diminished to an extent (e.g. food has gone cold or soggy), possibly leading to unsatisfied customers.
Additionally, you should consider that there may be limited drivers who are willing to drive longer distances between your venue and the customer's address if it's a 5km radius.
Another example: a 6km radius at the moment is about a 21 minute drive by car from Potts Points to Bronte/Bondi, the gold star standard is to have food arrive within 13 minutes - restaurant to customer. We want to ensure the integrity and quality of your restaurant and food is kept well, and to avoid issues with logistics further down the road.
